Obstetric Shock
نویسنده
چکیده
OBSTETRIC shock is one of the most serious of the accidents associated with childbirth. Puerperal sepsis is the only condition responsible for a larger proportion of maternal deaths. Out of 141 consecutive deaths occurring in the Belfast Maternity Hospital, and the Royal Maternity Hospital, Belfast, during the ten years, 1927-36, twenty-three, i.e., 16.3 per cent., were due to obstetric shock. More distressing still is the fact that twelve out of the twenty-three women who died had attended the hospital ante-natal clinic. As there were forty deaths in ante-natal cases, this means that thirty per cent. of these deaths were due to obstetric shock.

Anti-shock garment in postpartum haemorrhage.
The non-pneumatic anti-shock garment (NASG) is a first-aid device that reverses hypovolaemic shock and decreases obstetric haemorrhage. It consists of articulated neoprene segments that close tightly with Velcro, shunting blood from the lower body to the core organs, elevating blood pressure and increasing preload and cardiac output. This chapter describes the controversial history of the prede...
متن کاملA non-inflatable anti-shock garment for obstetric hemorrhage.
OBJECTIVES Maternal death from hemorrhage in low resource settings is frequently due to long delays in transportation to referral centers and/or in obtaining blood and surgical interventions. This case series was designed to demonstrate the feasibility, efficacy and safety of the non-inflatable anti-shock garment (NI-ASG) for resuscitation and hemostasis in the initial management of obstetric h...

Obstetric haemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality. In many low-resource settings, delays in transport to referral facilities and in obtaining lifesaving treatment, contribute to maternal deaths. The non-pneumatic anti-shock garment (NASG) is a low-technology pressure device that decreases blood loss, restores vital signs, and has the potential to improve adverse outcomes ...
متن کاملCombined analysis of the non-pneumatic anti-shock garment on mortality from hypovolemic shock secondary to obstetric hemorrhage
BACKGROUND Obstetric hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal mortality, particularly in low-resource settings where women face significant delays in accessing definitive treatment. The Non-pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment (NASG) is a first-aid device to stabilize women in hypovolemic shock secondary to obstetric hemorrhage. Prior studies on the effectiveness of the NASG have suffered from small...
متن کاملA New Protocol for Determining Intervention with Trans-Catheter Arterial Embolization or Surgical Hemostasis for Obstetric Hemorrhage
Objectives: The aim of this study is to introduce protocols for choosing trans-arterial embolization (TAE) or surgical hemostasis as an initial therapy for obstetric hemorrhage. Materials and Methods: From 2002 to 2011 at our hospital, the medical records of the patients who underwent TAE or surgical hemostasis for obstetric hemorrhage were reviewed to assess the following data: The causes of o...
